Global Climate Protest in Odisha capital tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: A city-based foundation will be organizing a global climate protest here tomorrow, to sensitize people about climate change.

The silent protest rally would commence at 7 am from Ram Mandir Square till Master Canteen Square.

“Climate change is real. While we are drifting through the many complexities of our daily lives – carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere has reached an all-time high, warming the planet with every passing year. Of the 30 worst air-polluted cities in the world, 22 belong to India. Some of our major cities including Chennai and Bengaluru are running out of water. Weather patterns have grown erratic – with fatal heat waves, untimely rain, and increased severity of cyclones (remember Cyclone Fani!) lashing not at our coasts but at our cities and our door steps multiple times a year. Human exploitation of the planet has raised a Frankenstein’s monster in the name of climate change that is ready to consume humanity itself,” a member of the foundation expressed.

The members led by Unmukt Foundation will submit a memorandum to Chief Minister and the Governor. The demands include: emission reduction, phasing out of fossil fuel, biodiversity restoration, waste segregation, sewage treatment, restoration of ponds in Ekamra Kshetra, creating urban forests and green army among others.

People around the world are observing Earth Strike to protest against climate inaction and wake world leaders up to the truth of the climate crisis. A 16-year-old girl Greta Thunberg is leading the voice of the youth inspiring #FridaysForFuture and #SchoolStrike4Climate movements.
