Former PCC president and senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik has welcomed Supreme Court’s decision for a CBI inquiry into the chit fund scam in Odisha.

Reacting to the apex court’s observations during the hearing of a PIL seeking CBI probe into the chitgate on Tuesday, Patnaik said the two-member bench of the apex court had seen through BJD government’s design to protect the real villains behind the chit fund scam by ordering a Crime Branch inquiry into the huge scam.

The senior Congress leader hoped the CBI probe will expose the role played by several ministers and leaders of the BJD who were the ‘maha nayaks’ behind the ‘maha loot’.

It may mentioned that Patnaik during his tenure as the PCC chief had written several letters to the chief minister demanding a CBI probe into the multi-crore scam that has affected nearly 20 lakh small investors across the state.
