Central committee on IIM to visit Odisha on Jan 14

A two-member Central committee would visit Bhubaneswar on January 14 to finalize the location for the permanent campus of  Indian Institute of Management (IIM) to be set up in Odisha.

Official sources said the two-member Central committee, comprising Amarjit Sinha, senior official of Union HRD ministry and Saibal Chattopadhyay, director of IIM-Kolkata, will visit the two places identified by the state government at Gothapatna and Aragul on the outskirts of the city.

The team will be accompanied by senior officials of IDCO, CPWD, Director of IIT-Bhubaneswar and Khurda collector when they visit these two places.

The committee, after visiting the two locations, will take a final call on the location later.

Sources, however, said the committee is most likely will select the land near the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar at Gothapathna as it meets the criteria for the IIM.

The committee, which was scheduled to visit on December 23 last year for selection of the location, had cancelled its tour at the last moment.

In the meanwhile, the state government has decided to run the temporary campus of the proposed IIM at the Toshali Bhawan in the Satyanagar area of the city.
