Child trafficking racket in Odisha: Husband of kingpin, another man held

Rourkela/Bhubaneswar: Day after arrest of seven persons including five women for their alleged involvement in child trafficking, the Rourkela Police today arrested another man and his accomplice in the case. However, the police are yet to nab the racket’s kingpin, Sangeeta Agrawal.

Following a manhunt the Plant Site police arrested Jitendra Agrawal, husband of the racket kingpin, and his accomplice.

A Senior Police official said efforts are on to arrest Sangeeta, the mastermind of the child trafficking racket.

Yesterday, Seema Agrawal from Janata Niwas lane in Rourkela, Sarita Agrawal, Nita Agrawal from DAV School lane, Asha Devi from Gurudwara Road, Nikhil Agrawal from DAV School lane, Sumit Agrawal from Power House Road and Sheela Agrawal from Bishra Dahara Road have been arrested for their involvement in child buying and selling.

The accused were selling girl child at Rs 40,000-Rs 1.5 lakh range and boy child at Rs 4 lakhs in Jharkhand and Raigarh area of Chhattisgarh state. After contacting poverty-stricken families in Rourkela, the accused used to lure them with money and buy children.
