Class IX student rescued from Blue Whale game in Odisha

Jajpur: A day after an engineering student was saved from becoming victim of dangerous Blue Whale internet game in Cuttack, Odisha police rescued another student studying in class IX from the suicide game here on Wednesday.

The class IX student of Shantipada village in Pritipur panchayat under Binjharpur block cut his hands 18 times with a sharp blade following the instructions of admin in the Blue Whale game.

In view of rising incidents due to Blue Whale game and its negative consequences across the State, Odisha Police DG RP Sharma ordered a probe into the incident.

He said that the student had cut his hand one month ago. The school authority has submitted a report in this connection.

The student had played a particular game twice on someone’s smartphone. He admitted before the police that he had played the game and cut his hand later, Sharma said.

Raising doubt over the incident due to alleged Blue Whale game, he said how the boy could cut his hand within two days while the instructions come 10 days after playing the game.

The probe has been ordered to know whether the student had cut his hand because of Blue Whale game or not, he said.

According to reports, the student without knowledge of his parents and family had been playing the suicide game in the past 20 days on his father’s smartphone. As per the command by the admin in the game, he cut his hand 18 times. While blood coming out of his hand, he was directed to apply the blood on a girl student’s head. Obeying the instruction when he tried to put his bleeding hand on a girl student’s head, she opposed it and informed the teacher about the unusual behaviour of the student. The headmaster of the school detained the student and informed the police.

The Binjharpur police took the student to Pritipur hospital for treatment and left the student after taking undertaking signed by his parents.
