CM Naveen richest MLA in Odisha, says ADR report

As many as 7 BJD MLAs have been placed in the list of top 10 richest legislators in the state.

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is the richest MLA in Odisha with total assets worth around Rs 63 crore, claimed the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) in a report today.

The ADR, in association with the Odisha Election Watch, have analyzed the affidavits submitted by all candidates while filing their nominations ahead of the 2019 Assembly elections and subsequent bye-elections in the state before releasing the report.

BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik with immovable assets worth Rs 63,64,15,261 and movable assets worth Rs 23,26,555 is the richest MLA in Odisha, said the ADR report.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) legislator from Jharsuguda, Dipali Das, who got elected to the Odisha Assembly in a bye-poll following the murder of her father and Health Minister Naba Das, is the second richest MLA in the state with totals assets worth around Rs 40 crore.

According to the ADR report, Dipali has movable assets worth Rs 34,40,87,879 and immovable assets worth Rs 5,76,40,400.

BJD MLA from Patnagarh in Balangir, Saroj Kumar Meher, is the third richest MLA in Odisha with total assets worth Rs 31 crore. Meher has movable assets worth Rs 57,49,827 and immovable assets worth Rs 30,86,05,862, said the ADR report.

Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik with total assets worth around Rs 30 crore is the fourth richest legislator in Odisha.

BJD MLA from Bhadrak, Sanjib Kumar Mallick is the fifth richest legislator with total assets worth around Rs 19 crore.

Congress MLAs Mohammad Moquim (Barabati-Cuttack) and Suresh Kumar Rautray (Jatni) are the sixth and Seventh richest legislators in Odisha respectively. Both Moqium and Rautray have assets worth around Rs 17 crore each, said the ADR report.

BJD legislators Pranab Balabantaray (Dharmasala), Sudhir Kumar Samal (Dhenkanal) and Susant Kumar Rout (Bhubaneswar North) are the eighth, ninth and 10th richest legislators in the state respectively.

Balabantaray has total assets worth around Rs 17 crore, Samal has around Rs 14 crore and Rout has around Rs 13 crore, said the ADR report.

As per the report, as many as seven BJD MLAs, including the Chief Minister, have been placed in the list of top 10 richest legislators in Odisha. Besides, two Congress MLAs found place in the list. However, the list does not have a single MLA from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha.
