Cyclone FANI toll increases to 64 in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Cyclonic storm FANI claimed at least 64 lives in the state, the latest report by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) said today.

Highest number of human deaths (39) has been reported from Puri, followed by 9 deaths in Khordha, 6 in Cuttack, 4 in Mayurbhanj and three each in Kendrapara and Jajpur districts.

While 20 of them died due to falling of tree/electric pole/hoarding, 25 were killed due to falling of wall and 6 due to falling of roof/asbestos sheets. The circumstances under which 13 others died are yet to be ascertained.

As per the report, around 1,65,30,900 people were affected in 14 districts– Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh and Puri.
