‘Dead’ man wakes up before cremation in Odisha village

Berhampur: High drama unfolded at Laukhala village under Surada police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district today as an elderly man, who was presumed dead, woke up before cremation. While villagers were shocked over the incident, joy erupted among the family members of the person.

According to reports, one Simanchal Mallick of the village had gone to a nearby forest two days ago and fell unconscious. Locals this morning found him lying in the same state at the forest and informed his family members.

Instead of taking him to hospital, villagers and his kin examined his condition and presumed him to be dead. While Simanchal was being taken to the cremation ground for cremation ceremony, he woke up panicking the pallbearers, who ran away in fear.

Later, his family members took him to Surada Community Health Centre. He was released from the hospital after primary treatment and his condition was stated to be stable.

“I was suffering from fever and fell unconscious at the forest. While the villagers were taking me to the cremation ground, I gained consciousness and woke up,” said Simanchal.
