Drug-peddling racket busted in Puri; brown sugar worth over Rs 25 lakh seized

Puri: Busting a drug-peddling racket, Puri police seized 275 gram brown sugar and arrested six persons in this connection at Mangalaghat Chhak here today.

The market value of the seized brown sugar is estimated to be over Rs 25 lakh.

Sources said the drug peddlers were arrested during vehicle checking at Mangalaghat Chhak. The police also seized a gun, live bullets, a bike and a SUV from their possession. The cops are interrogating the accused to find out the network of the racket.

Earlier on October 3, the Quick Action Team (QAT)of Commissionerate Police and Balianta police sized 300 gram brown sugar worth Rs 35 lakh from Pahala area on Bhubaneswar outskirts when the narcotic item was being transported to Bhubaneswar from Jaleswar area of Balasore district.

The cops had also arrested three persons in this connection and seized cash of Rs 55,730, two motorcycles and three mobiles phones from their possession.
