Experts to examine Odisha’s Sri Mandir

Puri: A five-member team of experts to inspect repair and conservation of Sri Mandir-the 12th century shrine in Odisha’s Puri arrived here today on a three-day visit.

The team comprising of experts from Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) today inspected repair and conservation work undertaken at Beheran Dwara, Natamandap, Jagamohan and the stone beam in front of the Garuda Stamba after an hour long meeting with and Sri Mandir Technical Core Committee at the Panthanivas here.

“This is our first visit. We will see how the system here can be monitored so that we can get information of any possible distress at the earliest,” informed Achal Mittal, CBRI.

“The team will take stock of the repair and conservation work,” said Dharma Prasad Mishra, Member Sri Mandir Technical Core Committee.

The team will inspect the Nilachakra– the metal wheel atop the shrine, Anla Bedha,Kalasa etc. tomorrow, sources said.

Also, lightning arrestor and earthing of the temple will be inspected, the sources added.
