Fake Crime Branch sleuths loot godman in Odisha

Taking cue from the anti-godmen wave and raids on their empires across Odisha, a five-member gang today allegedly robbed a godman of Rs 32, 000 in the Silk City impersonating as Crime Branch police.

Robbery LootThe robbers turned up at the doors of one Kali Baba here today and conducted a search operation posing as Crime Branch sleuths.

These impersonators threatened the Baba that several complaints have been lodged against him with them. They even asked him to produce his property list and other documents. When the Baba pleaded his innocence, the fake cops demanded Rs 2 lakh to withdraw cases against him, police said.

The robbers aged between 30 and 35 also decamped with two savings bank pass books with them apart from the cash, police added.

“Kali Baba has lodged an FIR and we have started investigation into the matter,” said AK Mishra IIC BN Pur police station.

Notably, the duped priest is known in the area as Kali Baba as he has been worshipping goddess Kali at his home since several years.
