Fake desi ghee unit unearthed in Odisha’s Cuttack, 1 held

Cuttack: Police today unearthed a fake desi ghee manufacturing unit from a house at Professor Para in Odisha’s Millennium City-Cuttack and arrested one person in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, Mangalabag police conducted a raid at the house of one Subash Behera in Sagaria Sahi of Professor Para locality leading to the unearthing of the fake desi ghee manufacturing unit.

Police have arrested Behera and have seized duplicate packaging materials of several reputed brands like Omfed Ghee, Durga Ghee and Devi Ghee; packing and sealing machines apart from palmolein oil used for manufacture of fake desi ghee from Behera’s house.

According to the police, Behera used to manufacture fake desi ghee using palmolein oil and other chemicals, he then using fake packaging material of popular ghee brands supplied it to shops in and around Cuttack city.

“According to preliminary investigation, he used to manufacture fake desi ghee by mixing little quantity of genuine desi ghee and other chemicals to palmolein oil which he used to purchase at Rs 60 per litre. He used to earn windfall profit by selling this product to grocery shops in Cuttack city and around,” informed Arun Swain, IIC, Mangalabag Police Station.

“As per reports available with us he was in this business for about six months. We are verifying if he was selling the product in other areas. We have seized around 60 nos. of 200 ml packs, 12 nos. of 1000 ml packs of Omfed Ghee and some packs of Durga Ghee and Devi Ghee apart from several empty containers, wrappers, labels and packaging machinery,” he added.
