Farmer commits suicide over loan burden in Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput: A farmer of Marla village under Pottangi block of Odisha’s Koraput district allegedly committed suicide over loan burden and crop loss.

The deceased has been identified as Balaram Guntha. He had taken a loan of Rs 1.5 lakh from private money lenders for agricultural purpose.

However, he suffered crop loss following incessant rainfall in the region. Finding no other way to repay the loan, he allegedly took the extreme step by consuming poison last night.

The farmer was rescued by his family members and admitted to Kunduli community health centre. He was later shifted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital, where he breathed his last today while undergoing treatment.
