Fight over Rs 200 turns ugly as man hacks uncle to death in Odisha

Nabarangpur/Bhubaneswar: A man hacked his elderly uncle to death over payment of mere Rs 200 in a village in Nabarangpur district yesterday evening. The incident took place at around 8 PM yesterday at Dhungiapani village under Umerkote block of the district.

Based on a complaint filed by family members of the deceased, Radhaba Majhi aged 65, the Umerkote Police arrested the accused, Dhanurjaya Majhi.

As per the complaint, Dhanurjaya visited the house of uncle Radhaba in Dhungiapani and demande Rs 200. Radhaba owed the money to Dhanurjaya who worked as a labourer at the uncle’s place few days back.

When Radhaba refused to pay Rs 200 to Dhanurjaya, an argument ensued. Later the accused hacked his uncle’s head with an axe killing him on the spot, added the deceased’s family.

Following the incident, Dhanurjaya escaped from the spot. But some villagers spotted him near Tohara and caught hold of the accused. He was then handed over to the Umerkote Police.

As the deceased’s son filed a complaint today, police officials visited the spot and sent the body to the nearby hospital for post mortem. The latest report suggest body of Radhaba was handed over to his family members for cremation.

A case no 453/21 has been registered at the Umerkote police station and investigation is on.
