Fire-fighting vehicle mishap in Odisha capital leaves 3 injured

Bhubaneswar, Aug 3:

An instructor and two trainees were grievously injuries after the Bronto Sky Lift (BSL), fire-fighting vehicle, overturned at Baramunda fire station training ground in Odisha capital today after losing balance during training.

The instructor was identified as Loknath Patra while the trainees were identified as Deepak Nayak and Barada Prasanna Nath.

The trio was rushed to Capital Hospital here soon after the incident, but Deepak was later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.

Baramunda Fire station sources said Nath was driving the vehicle for the first time during the training session. The trainee lost control over the vehicle and skidded off a sandy surface as a result of which the vehicle turned turtle.

“The fire department has three such fire-fighting vehicles which can reach up to a height of at least 22 floors. Each vehicle costs at least Rs 8 crore,” officials in the fire department said.

Meanwhile, Chief Fire Officer Sukant Kumar Sethi has ordered for an inquiry into the incident to ascertain the reason behind the mishap.
