Fire mishap: 35 houses reduced to ashes in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack, May 20:

At least 35 houses were reduced to ashes as fire broke out at Bangali Basti near Nirgundi tollgate in Manguli of Odisha’s Cuttack district late last night.

No casualties have been reported in the incident.

However, properties worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in the blaze, sources said.

On being informed, five fire brigade units rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames.

However, the residents of the slum alleged that the intensity of the fire and damage could have been reduced had the fire tenders reached the spot on time.

Though the reason behind the outbreak of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the fire originated from a lamp inside a house and later engulfed the slum.
