Five hardcore Maoists surrender in Odisha

Disillusioned by the Maoist ideology, five hardcore Maoists including two lady cadres surrendered before the Rourkela police in Odisha’s Sundargarh district today.

They have been identified as Soma Munda (25), Dulai Chempia (20), Johan Purty (22), Anita Nayak (18) and Surbali Nayak (16).

According to police, the five Maoists had joined the CPI-Maoist in 2010 and were involved in a number of remained active in the bordering areas of Rourkela and West Singbhum district of Jharkhand.

Of the five Maoists, the three male Maoists— Soma Munda, Dulai Chempia and Johan Purty (22)— were carrying a cash reward of Rs one lakh each on their heads.

Confessing to their involvement in a number of cases of violence to the police, they said the Maoists, under the leadership of Anmol and Sandeep, are indiscriminately killing the innocent tribals in the name of police informers.

They also said the Maoists are using the minor tribal children to carry out illegal activities.
