Five Maoists surrender before Rourkela police in Odisha

Five Maoists, including a woman cadre, surrendered before the Rourkela Police in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Friday, police said.

They have been identified as Jeetan Bari (24), Chamu Munda alias Arjun (27), Kanhu Bora (24) Mangu Bandra (23) and Sukimati Gagarai alias Shilpa (22).

“The five Maoists told the police that they were disillusioned with the high-handedness of the top cadres and decided to return to the mainstream, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Rourkela, SK Mohanty said.

The ASP said these five Maoists had joined the banned outfit on the advice of a top leader Madhu Tarkot.

Barring Kanhu, who belongs to K Balang of Odisha, the Maoists hailed from Jharkhand, he said, adding that the Jharkhand police had announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on the head of Bari.

With this, a total of 18 Maoists have surrendered before Rourkela Police this year, the ASP informed.
