Fix cut off date for new members, BJP tells Odisha coop poll panel

BJP Odisha Co-Operative Cell on Monday met the State Co-Operative Election Commissioner and submitted a memorandum to him seeking fixation of a cut-off date for accepting new members in cooperative societies of the state.

In the memorandum, the party sought to remind the commissioner that the cut-off date for accepting new members in the cooperative societies had not been defined in a specific and proper manner leading to confusion in the minds of the members, chief executive officers of the cooperative societies, election officers as well as administrative officers of the co-operative departments.

It requested the Commission to declare the cut-off date for accepting new members in the cooperative societies as per the notification issued by the State Co-Operative Election Commission on Oct 27, 2014. Any inclusion in the members’ list thereafter should not be treated as valid and only eligible members should be allowed to cast their vote and participate in the election process.

The memo further urged the commissioner to issue suitable instructions to all the DRCS and ARCS of the State while considering the judgment passed by the High Court on October 22 as the date of publication of the notification dated 27.10.2014 by the State Co-Operative Election Commission.

It may be noted that, the election of the Primary Societies of the State will be held on January 18 and 25, 2015 as per the directive issued by State Co-Operative Election Commissioner’s office.
