Group clash: Bombs hurled at Kalapathar Bazar in Odisha’s Cuttack

A group clash during Ganesh idol immersion procession at Kalapathar Bazar under Baideswar police limits here yesterday took a violent turn today as bombs were hurled at the market in which more than three persons sustained injuries.

According to reports, a clash had ensued between villagers of Kalapathar and some youths of nearby Khajuripada yesterday during Ganesh idol immersion procession by the latter.

The villagers had opposed the procession which led to a scuffle between the two groups. The villagers attacked the youth and vandalized several shops at the market belonging to some people of Khajuripada.

Tension gripped the market today as bombs and stones were hurled from both the sides. More than three persons of both groups were injured in the bomb explosions. While two shops were gutted in fire, three stores were damaged, sources said.

Section 144 of CrPC was clamped at Kalapathar Bazar following the incident. Four platoons of police force have been deployed at the spot to avoid further untoward incident.
