HC judges unhappy over poor facilities in SCB Emergency ward

OST Bureau
Cuttack, Jan 15:

The two-member team of judges of the Odisha High Court has expressed resentment over poor arrangement in the Emergency ward of the SCB Medical College and Hospital here.

The two judges— Justice Indrajit Mahanti and Justice MM Das—arrived at the Hospital on a surprise visit on Tuesday and found the Emergency ward in a state of mess.

To their utter dismay, they found a number of broken cots and beds without bed-sheets. Besides, they also found the ECG room closed and lying defunct.

Later, at a meeting with the doctors and head of the ward, the two judges asked them as to what steps had been taken for the improvement of the ward and enquired about the existing problems of the ward.

The team went through the duty charts of the doctors and nurses.

During inspection of other wards, the team found gross mismanagement of disposal of wastes in the Casualty ward where several open dustbins were producing a foul smell.

The team also took note of the pitiable condition of the operation theatre (OT), non-supply of oxygen in the oxygen pipes, defunct freezers inside the post-mortem room.

Before leaving from the hospital, the two judges visited the disposal waste treatment plant.
