Heavy rainfall to lash Odisha in next 72 hours

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience heavy rainfall in next 72 hours under influence of a low pressure formed over northwest Bay of Bengal.

The Regional Meteorological Centre issued heavy rainfall warning for most parts of the State.

A low pressure area lies over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood with associated cyclonic circulation upto 9.5 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. The system is likely to become a well marked low pressure area during next 24 hours, the Bhubaneswar MeT said in a release.

According to IMD, Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur today at one or two places over Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara districts and heavy rainfall to occur at one or two places over Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar, Angul, Rayagada, Boudh and Kandhamal districts of Odisha.

The weathermen also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for tomorrow i.e July 15 at a few places over Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Boudh, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal and Kalahandi districts. The extremely heavy rainfall is predicted at one or two places over Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada and Boudh districts of the State.

Similarly, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Angul districts on July 16.

The fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea during next 48 hours.
