Intense heatwave continues for 8th day in a row; Odisha capital registers season’s highest temp

Bhubaneswar: The intense heatwave condition continued to prevail across Odisha for the eighth consecutive day as the mercury crossed 40 Degree Celsius at 17 places in the state on Monday.

The intense heatwave condition prevailed over the districts of Khurda, Kendrapara, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur today, said the IMD in its weather bulletin.

“As of now, Odisha has witnessed 10 days of heatwave in April this year. The state usually witnesses up to three days of heatwave in the month of April,” it added.

The capital city of Odisha recorded the highest maximum temperature of 43.8 Degree C in the state today.

This is the highest maximum temperature reported from the capital city this year, said the IMD regional centre here.

The maximum temperature was 42.9 Degree C at Paralakhemundi, 42.6 at Baripada, 42.4 at Nuapada, 41.8 at Kendrapara, 41.6 at Jagatsinghpur and 41 Degree C at Bhadrak and Jajpur.

As per the IMD weather report, at least nine places in Odisha–Boudh, Balasore, Angul, Chandabali, Talcher, Cuttack, Malkangiri, Dhenkanal and Nayagarh—recorded the maximum temperature in between 40 Degree C and 41 Degree C.

The day temperature is very likely to reach 40 Degree C or above at many places in Odisha during the next 24 hours, predicted the IMD.
