Mercury soars above 40 Degrees Celsius in 27 places of Odisha; Bolangir hottest with 45

Bhubaneswar: With mercury on the rise at several places in Odisha and as heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail over several districts of the State till May 6, at least 27 places witnessed maximum (day) temperatures above 40 Degrees Celsius, today.

Bolangir recorded the highest maximum temperature at 45 Degrees Celsius. It was followed by Angul (44.7), Nuapada (44.6), Talcher, and Titilagarh each (44.5), Boudh (44.3), Baripada (43.4), Bhawanipatna (43.0), Dhenkanal, and Sambalpur each (42.8), Jharsuguda, and Malkangiri each (42.6), Nayagarh (42.5), Jajpur, Sonepur, and Sundargarh each (42.2), Hirakud, and Keonjhar each (42.1), Phulbani (41.9), Balasore, and Chandbali each (41.2), Bhadrak, and Rourkela each (41.0), Bargarh (40.6), Chhatrapur, and Khordha each (40.5) and Paralakhemundi (40.2).

Besides, Kendrapada and Rayagada recorded maximum temperatures at 40 Degrees Celsius.

Temperature forecast: The Maximum (day) temperature is likely to be above normal by 3°C to 5°C over some districts of Odisha during the next three to four days. People are to take precautionary measures while going outside during the day hours between 1100 Hrs IST and 1500 Hrs IST during these days, a special bulletin of the IMD regional centre in Bhubaneswar advised.
