Justice Vineet Saran sworn in as new CJ of Orissa HC

Justice Vineet Saran was today sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Orissa High Court. Odisha Governor SC Jamir administered the oath of office to him.

Saran was sworn in as the 29th Chief Justice of Orissa High Court at a ceremony held in the High Court premises here.

Saran, a Judge of Karnataka High Court, was elevated as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.

Saran graduated from Allahabad University in 1976 and obtained LL.B. Degree in the year 1979-80. He began his career as a lawyer at Allahabad High Court in 1980 after enrolling with the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council. He also served as Additional Advocate General for UP in 1995 till he was elevated as a permanent Judge in 2002. He served at Allahabad High Court till last year.

The 59-year-old jurist took oath as Judge of Karnataka High Court on February 16 last year.

Notably, the post of the Chief Justice in the Orissa High Court was lying vacant after Chief Justice DH Waghela was transferred to Bombay High Court. A notification in this regard was issued by Rashtrapati Bhawan on February 3.

He had assumed office as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court in June last year and presided over the court for a period of nine months.
