Bhubaneswar, Aug 9:

Odisha unit of Congress today started its ‘Adhikar Yatra’ seeking justice for the victims of Gumudumaha shootout and to protest against government inaction on the issue.

Congress Adhikar Yatra

Scores of Congress supporters led by PCC President Prasad Harichandan attended the rally that started from Gumudumaha village and culminated at Tumudibandha. The leaders demanded more compensation to the families of the victims and investigation of the shootout by a sitting judge.

“No action has been taken against the culprits even a month after the shootout. This fight is for the rights of the dalits and tribals. We ask the Naveen Patnaik led BJD government to quit office since they have failed to deliver on their promises,” said Prasad Harichandan.

BJD, on the other hand, refuted the charge and said that Congress needs to wait until the probe is over.

“Congress party should behave responsibly. It is unfortunate to politicize such a sensitive issue. Besides, a probe is already on. They should wait until the report is submitted,” said BJD Spokesperson Rabi Narayan Nanda.
