Kargil Vijay Diwas observed in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar, July 26:

Two organisations based in the Odisha capital -‘Citizen 4 Forces’ and ‘Being Indian Foundation’ – today observed Kargil Vijay Diwas in the city by lighting diyas and chanting prayers in remembrance of the 527 martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation in 1999 Kargil war.

The organisations also held a peace rally from Ram Mandir square to Master Canteen square on the occasion to make people aware about the importance of the day.

The members of the outfits appealed to public to put a diya on their home for martyrs and requested the government to add Kargil Vijay Diwas as a special day in the educational curriculum.

Among those present on the occasion were retired defence veterans Major General Saumendradev Mahanty, Colonel Lalatendu Mahapatra, Wing Commander Gorachand Barik, Secretary, Air Force Association Odisha Arun Mohanty and General Secretary Indian Ex-Services League, Odisha Bidyadhar Nayak.

This is the third year the outfits observed this historic event, said Smruti, a member of the organising committee.

The aforesaid organizations are well known for their work in welfare, recognition and rights of defence veterans and martyrs’ families in the country.

Members of organization frequently go on expeditions to various places of military importance. Recently, they visited Kargil to meet and compliment defence personnel for their courage, unity and honesty in their duty in keeping vigil round the clock which allowed the people of the country to sleep well in nights, the organiser added.
