KCC Bank loan scam: Odisha tribal body holds rally demands action

Malkangiri: Malkangiri Zilla Adivasi Samaj Mahasangh (MZASM) today took to the streets against the crop loan scam at the Kalimela Large Sized Agricultural Multipurpose Primary Cooperative Society (LAMPCS) of the Koraput Central Cooperative (KCC) Bank.

The Mahasangh took out a massive rally from the bus stand up to the District Collectorate here demanding action against officials and politicians involved in the crop loan scam at the Kalimela branch of the Koraput Central Cooperative (KCC) Bank.

The Mahasangh, which gheraoed the District Collector’s office, submitted a 10-point charter of demands to the Chief Minister through the Collector.

As of now, The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch has arrested three accused persons involved in the scam.

Rs 3.69 crore was misappropriated in Kalimela Large LAMPCS of Koraput Central Cooperative Bank.

Former branch manager Ramesh Chandra Parmanik, accountant Kishore Chandra Bisoi and cashier Bhupendra Narayan Mohanty have been arrested who are accused of giving away loans without guarantee and security.

The irregularities and illegal sanction of crop loan to the tune of Rs 3.69 crore was detected during an audit by the Cooperation Department.

The arrested trio had allegedly prepared forged documents and records and had misappropriated the amount.

The loans were sanctioned during 2014-15. For sanction of the loans, no account was maintained nor was any ledger entry made by these officials who acted in connivance with each other.

After detection of the fraud, the Cooperation Department asked the EOW to take up the probe.
