KISS to conduct workshop in UN conference

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has been selected and allotted a generous time slot of 75 minutes to conduct a workshop at the 66th United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI)/ Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Conference scheduled to be held in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea from May 30 to June 1, said an official release of KISS.

The conference, being held in the first year of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has “Education for Global Citizenship: Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals Together” as its focal theme.

KISS was selected for conducting a workshop in this UN conference as it has been fulfilling all SDGs. During the workshop, the institute will focus on its unique approach to empowerment and poverty alleviation through education as well as success stories. The presentation will also highlight Odisha.

SDGs, adopted by United Nations (UN) Member States in September 2015, seek to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure human rights and prosperous and fulfilling lives for all, as part of a new sustainable development agenda to be achieved by 2030. The current year presents a globally unprecedented opportunity to spark these transformational changes, following also on the successful conclusion of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 21st Conference of Parties (COP) agreement in Paris in December 2015.

KISS has long been partnering with UNFPA in successfully implementing Life Skill Education and Adolescent and Reproductive Health Program.

Recently, the institute has also partnered with University of Cambridge, UK. As a result of insights from these partnerships, the conference is expected to lead to the introduction of a new approach to education for the civil society and governments to inculcate and emulate.

KISS is the only NGO from India selected for this prestigious conference.
