Mahila police registers case against Odisha MLA

The Mahila Police Station here this evening registered a case against independent MLA from Champua in Odisha’s Keonjhar district Sanatan Mahakud and his son-in-law Dinabandhu on the basis of complaint lodged by a woman claiming to be Mahakud’s daughter-in-law.

The police registered the case under sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 341(Punishment for wrongful restraint), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation)and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) sections of the IPC against Mahakud and his son-in-law on the basis of a complaint lodged by Kavita Mahakud who claimed to be the wife of Mahakud’s son.

The complainant–Kavita Mahakud had earlier in the day levelled harassment allegations against legislator Sanatan Mahakud at the Mahila Police Station here.

Claiming to be the eldest daughter-in-law of the MLA, Kavita alleged that she has been meted out physical and mental torture and also subjected to intimidation.

Besides, she also brought allegations against husband Pankaj and brother-in-law Dinabandhu Barik.

On the other hand, the MLA has refuted allegations made by the woman.

“I don’t know who has filed the complaint. My daughter-in-law is in my house,” Sanatan Mahakud said.
