Man hacks daughter-in-law, commits suicide in Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur: In a shocking incident, a 48-year-old man allegedly hacked his daughter-in-law with sharp weapons and later committed suicide at Baruneipada village under Panikoili police limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district.

According to reports, Damodar Behera of the village attacked his daughter-in-law Sakuntala (27) yesterday afternoon during the absence of his son at the house.

Hearing screams of the woman, neighbours rushed to the spot and found her in an injured and bleeding state. They rescued Sakuntala and admitted her to the district headquarters hospital. She was later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as her condition deteriorated.

Later, the body of Damodar was found hanging from a tree on the outskirts of the village. Police have registered a case into the incident and started investigation.

The exact reason behind the attack could be ascertained after recording the statement of the injured woman, police said.
