Man hacks father to death, injures mother in Odisha

Jajpur, Aug 21:

A youth hacked his father to death and critically injured his mother in Odisha’s Jajpur district late on Saturday night, police said today.

According to reports, the accused Kalia Mukhi (45) demanded money from his father Bijay Mukhi (65) yesterday night. When the latter refused to give in to the former’s demand, the duo had an altercation following which the accused allegedly hacked his father with a machete. When his mother intervened into the matter, she was also attacked by her son.

The incident took place at around midnight at Itapur village in Ragadi panchayat under Korei police limits in the district.

Following the incident, the accused— who was said to be in an inebriated state— set the house afire and fled the scene.

A grievously injured Bijay was rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Jajpur Road where he succumbed to his injuries. The wife of deceased was also admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Jajpur SDPO Jugal Kishore Das, Korei IIC Chinmayee Sahu reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident.

According to reports, the local police surrounded a nearby cashew orchard where the accused was hiding. Later, the accused was arrested.
