Maoists kill sarpanch by slitting throat in Odisha’s Koraput

Jeypore: Brutal acts of Maoists continue unabated in Odisha as a sarpanch was allegedly killed by the red rebels over suspicion of being a police informer at Hatibari village under Padua police limits in Koraput district late last night.

The deceased was identified as Jaga Khara, sarpanch of Nandapur panchayat.

According to reports, a group of over 50 armed Maoists barged into the house of Khara when he was asleep and dragged him outside.

The extremists later killed him by slitting his throat, reports added.

Before fleeing the spot, the ultras torched a bike, a car and a jeep of the sarpanch besides leaving a handwritten letter near the body.

On being informed, police reached the spot, seized the body and letter and started investigation.
