Mentally-challenged man crushed to death for uprooting Tulsi plant in Odisha

Sonepur: In a shocking incident, a mentally-challenged man was allegedly crushed to death for uprooting a Tulsi plant at Gulapada village under Binika NAC of Odisha’s Sonepur district.

The deceased was identified as Prakash Sevak (42). He had reportedly uprooted a Tulsi plant of his relative Pandu Behera (35).

A dispute emerged over the incident as Pandu went to Prakash’s house and scolded him besides threatening to kill him.

Later in the evening, Pandu reached a nearby river where Prakash was taking bath. He attacked Prakash with brick and stone leaving the victim critically injured.

The attacker then carried Prakash on his two-wheeler and dumped him in front of his house in the village in a profusely bleeding state.

The victim’s family members rescued him and rushed him to Binika Hospital. After primary treatment, he was shifted to VIMSAR in Burla. However, he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment there.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the deceased’s mother, police detained the accused for questioning.
