Minor girl ‘misbehaved’ by cop inside Srimandir

Puri: A day after the standoff between police and servitors disrupted the daily rituals at the centuries-old Srimandir, a minor girl was allegedly misbehaved by police personnel inside the temple today.

Sources said a minor girl along with her parents had come for a darshan at Srimandir today morning. While she was offering prayers to the deities near ‘Bahara Katha’ inside the temple, a cop allegedly misbehaved with her. She later lodged a complaint against the cop at Singhadwara police station here.

Meanwhile, the accused cop identified as Constable Chhukesh Meher, who was posted at 9th IRB Battalion, Koraput, was later suspended for his offence. Meher was deployed at Srimandir here for New Year.

Later in the evening, Meher was arrested after the examination of the CCTV footage, Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi informed.

Yesterday, the temple gates were closed while rituals of the deities halted for over 13 hours following a standoff between police and servitors over entry of three West Bengal devotees on December 27.
