Netflix cuts subscription rates for all plans in India; now starts at Rs 149

Bhubaneswar: Entertainment streaming platform Netflix today announced that it has slashed its monthly subscription rates by upto 60 per cent in India, in a bid to expand its reach in the country amidst the growing competition in OTT media service space.

Users will now have to pay Rs 149 in stead of Rs 199 per month for Netflix’s Mobile and Rs 199 instead of Rs 499 for its basic plan for the same period. “We are slashing the prices across all our plans. The biggest drop of 60 per cent is in the basic plan (from Rs 499 to Rs 199), because we want the audiences to watch Netflix on a bigger screen or on any device,” said Netflix vice president for content (India) Monika Shergill to a news agency.

Launched in India in 2016, Netflix has been a premium offering with subscription plans starting at about Rs 500. The company has changed pricing as well as introduced a mobile-only plan in the country since then.

Worth mentioning, Netflix competes with Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar and other local players in the Indian market.
