Satpathy, who was the Commandant of 7th battalion in the city earlier, would take charge on Monday.

He would replace Binod Dash, who has been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty for his failure to prevent the egg attack on the Chief Minister’s carcade on February 19.

A group of Youth Congress activists had broken the security cordon, pelted eggs and showed black flags at the Chief Minister’s convoy near Keshari Talkies on February 19 while he was on his way to attend the students’ union annual function at Utkal University.

Following the security breach, the Home department had suspended three police officers for dereliction of duty.

The two other suspended police officers are Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of the Kharavela Nagar zone SK Sarifuddin and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Kharvela Nagar police station PK Sahu.
