Newly married woman’s body found packed in sack in Odisha; hubby absconding

Kendrapara: Body of a newly married woman namely Mamina Mallick was found packed in a sack near Tubihuda village under Sadar police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapara district today while her husband Babuli Rout went absconding after the incident.

Locals found the body inside the sack this morning following which they manhandled the deceased’s father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law suspecting their involvement in killing her.

On being informed by the locals, police reached the spot, seized the body for post-mortem and detained the woman’s in-laws for interrogation.

“The matter will become clear after getting the autopsy report. An investigation into the incident is on,” a police official said. A case has been registered into the incident under Section 302 of IPC.

It is suspected that Manini was tortured and then killed by her in-laws over dowry demand.

According to police sources, Manini, hailing from Jajpur, had married Babuli seven months ago after both fell in love with each other while working in a private company in Bhubaneswar.

Though Babuli’s family members initially denied to accept her, they later allowed her to stay with them. However, she soon started undergoing torture by her in-laws over demand of dowry by the latter.

Unable to bear it, she sought the help of district Collector and SP following which she was shifted to a short stay home after local administration’s intervention. Seven days ago, she was brought back to her in-laws’ house from the short stay home by her sister-in-law.
