Noted Odisha litterateur Prafulla Das receives Sarala Award

Well-known litterateur and freedom fighter of Odisha, Prafulla Das, was conferred with the prestigious Sarala Award on Sunday evening.

The award was presented to the 89-year old Das by eminent Bollywood lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar at a glittering function in the city here. Das given a citation, a plaque and a cash award of Rs 2.5 lakh,

This is the 35th edition of the award instituted by Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), part of the IMFA Group,

Das, who received the award for his contribution to Odia literature through his book ‘Bahinimaan’, which documents the life and times of eminent social worker Malati Chaudhury, has also written several stories on the under-privileged sections of the society and nature.

Apart from Das, veteran Odissi vocalist Shyamamani Devi and painter Shiba Panigrahi were also felicitated with a cash award of Rs one lakh, a plaque and a citation each for their contribution to music and art respectively.

Among others, working president of IMPaCT, Santanu Acharya and Trustee Paramita Mohapatra were present on the occasion.
