NPCDCS in five more districts soon: Minister

Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: The National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases and Strokes (NPCDCS) will be extended to five more districts.

Announcing this at a press briefing here on Wednesday, Health and Family Welfare minister Damodar Rout said the district headquarters hospitals at Cuttack, Khordha, Ganjam, Sambalpur and Rayadada districts would avail the programme.

Besides critical care unit, six-bed ICUs and day care unit for cancer patients, modern equipment to conduct tests like PAP Simmer, VIAFNAC, Scrap Citology and Calscopy would also be installed in these hospitals, he said.

The programme was earlier launched in Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Bolangir districts on experimental basis.

The programme would be implemented in all the 30 districts of the state in phases during the 12th Five Year Plan.
