Odisha: 7-year-old Asiatic lioness Rewa at Nandankanan Zoo gives birth to three male cubs

Bhubaneswar: Asiatic lioness Rewa has given birth to three male cubs at Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar. This was informed by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF)-Wildlife Susanta Nanda, today.

Taking to his personal ‘X’ handle, the PCCF wrote, “Welcome Amar, Akbar & Anthony☺️☺️ Seven-year-old Asiatic lioness Rewa at Nandankanan Biological Park has given birth to three male cubs. As the mother abandoned them, they were stabilised in neonatal ICU and are being hand reared now.”

It is the second time that she has given birth to cubs. After birth, the lioness rejected the cubs and did not take care of them, hence these cubs have been shifted to a hand-rearing centre.

Worth mentioning, Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) is a 437-hectare (1,080-acre) zoo and botanical garden in Odisha. Established in 1960, it was opened for public visit in 1979 and became the first ever zoo in India to join the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) in 2009.
