Odisha: Aadhaar enrollment of newborns at hospitals soon

Bhubaneswar: In a significant initiative, the Odisha government will start enrollment of newborns at hospitals across the state, soon. The aim of this move is to facilitate Aadhaar saturation in the 0-5 years age group.

As per reports, the newborns will be enrolled without biometrics, under the Baal Aadhaar initiative. The Baal Aadhaar has a 12 digit unique identification number, like the Aadhaar for adults.

The unique identification number of the newborns will be processed on the basis of demographic information and facial photographs linked with the unique identification number of their parents.

When they turn 5 and 15 years old, they need to update their biometrics (fingers, iris and facial photograph).

So far, around 14.83 lakh children below five years of age out of 40.36 lakh in the state have been enrolled.
