The party organised a peaceful demonstration and took on the government on issues such as transportation, law and order, education and health among others on the occasion.

“On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Shashtriji, we began the Satyagraha today to highlight the lies the government is peddling to remain in power. We stand against their hypocrisy and corruption,” said BJP leader Pratap Sarangi who led the satyagraha in Nilgiri.

“The people of Odisha are today shamed all over the world for incidents such as Dana Majhi. He carried the body of his wife for over 12 kilometres. There are innumerable such incidents. This government couldn’t facilitate them with ambulances. All that this government does is self-promotion. This is shameful. That is why we are observing the day of shame today,” he added.

According to the party, peaceful demonstrations will be held across all sub-divisional headquarters of the state in the coming days to highlight the failure of the BJD led Odisha Government.

BJP opposes the teacher-on-call scheme of the State Government. Besides, it holds the government responsible for the gross mismanagement of healthcare services in the state and resultant issues such as Nagada.

The campaign is seen as the saffron party’s counter to the Biju Janata Dal’s ‘Janasamparka Padayatra’ that also began today.
