The new fares will be implemented with immediate effect, Transport minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi told newsmen here this afternoon.

“The state government has reduced the bus fare again today. After the 2 paisa cut, fares for ordinary buses have now come down from 59 to 57 paise per km, express bus fares from 62 to 60 paise per km, deluxe bus fares from 82 to 80 paise and fares of AC deluxe buses from Rs 1.01 to 99 paisa per kilometre. The new fare structure will come into force from today,” Majhi said.

While making the announcement about the 1 paisa, across the board cut on February 4, the Trnasport minister had made it clear that the announcement had not taken into account the Rs 2.25 reduction announced by the oil  companies the previous day. It was made on the basis of the Rs 2.25 paise cut in January, he had said adding there would be another cut in fares soon after the technical committee went into the latest fall in oil prices.
