Bhubaneswar, Jan 13:

A day after CBI conducted simultaneous raids in and outside Odisha including houses of Biju Janata Dal Balasore MP Rabindra Jena, Choudwar-Cuttack BJD MLA Prabhat Biswal and Naveen Nivas aide Saroj Sahu in connection with Seashore group chit fund scam, CBI SP Rajiv Ranjan today met police DG KB Singh at the latter’s office.

Rumour mills went abuzz in absence of a detailed official statement from both parties pertaining to the context of the meeting as many observers claimed that “there is more to the meeting than meets the eye”.

Even though both the SP and DGP called the over half an hour long meeting a “courtesy call”, Seashore issue could have been discussed in the 30 minute long meeting, said an observer without wanting to be named.

While yet another speculated that the SP might have raised the issue of ruling BJD workers trying to gatecrash into CBI office yesterday, many others suggested that he could have discussed the findings of the yesterday’s raids with the DGP.

“There was no law and order issue there. It was a general protest. We did not discuss anything. I came here to call on the DG. CBI is an independent agency and doing its investigation,” said the SP speaking to reporters while persistently avoiding questions pertaining to the chit fund scam investigation.

“That is a normal courtesy call. He came here with a bouquet and greeted us because he is a member from the service. We had a cup of tea. That’s all,” said DGP Singh speaking about the meeting.
