Notably, the tenure of the contract was about to expire at the end of next month. However, the Corporation had to prematurely scrap the agreement ahead of its completion following hue and cry over tender fixing charges.

Yesterday, the city unit of Congress led by its president Mohd Moquim staged a demonstration in front of the CMC office demanding cancellation of the renewed agreement with the firm.

The agitating members alleged that the firm has been awarded contract without inviting tenders like previous years.

It is alleged that the gangster siblings Dhalsamanta brothers acted as middlemen in fixing tender for the firm.

Twin City Commissionerate Police yesterday interrogated Ramky Managing Director Raman Nanda, general manager Giti Mohanty and Balaram Sahoo at the Chauliaganj police station here to dig into the allegations of involvement in tender fixing.

It may be mentioned that the civic body had entered into an agreement with Ramky in 2011 for solid waste management and mechanised sweeping. As per the agreement, Ramky charges Rs 1,764 per metric tonne for disposal of waste and Rs 60 crore for sweeping major roads in the city.
