Odisha CM announces ex-gratia for Dhenkanal wall collapse victims

Bhubaneswar:  Expressing deep grief over death of four persons in wall collapse in Dhenkanal district, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced compensation for the families of the deceased.

An ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased will be given from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and the injured will get free treatment, an official communication said.

Besides, the CM has conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved families.

Earlier in the day, Dhenkanal Collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25,000 each to the next of kin of the deceased.

Four vegetable vendors were killed and five others were injured when the wall of an abandoned rice mill collapsed inside a weekly vegetable market in the district. Several two-wheelers were also damaged in the incident.

The deceased were identified as Rama Chandra Patra, Abhimanyu Biswal, Mayadhar Mallick and Sangram Sahu, who were sitting near the wall, when portions of an abandoned wall fell on them.
