Odisha CM dedicates 100 multi-purpose flood shelters

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today dedicated 100 multi-purpose flood and cyclone shelter centres built across 17 districts of the state in a function organised at the State Secretariat.

“The dedication of 100 multi-purpose cyclone and flood shelters in 17 districts will further strengthen the overall disaster preparedness of our state,” said Chief Minister Patnaik speaking to reporters after the event.

While 20 of these shelters are in Puri district, Ganjam has 16 and Balasore and Khurdha have 12 each. Further, Kendrapara and Bhadrak have 10 each and Cuttack has three. Boudh, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur districts have two centres each and Bargarh has one.

According to the government, these shelters are equipped with first aid boxes, kitchen essentials, power saws, soaps, foldable stretchers, search lights, solar lanterns and water filters for usage during emergency.

Apart from the facilitating shelter to the needy during calamities, these shelters have been designed to serve as temporary schools, community centres and platform for service delivery.
