Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik pays tribute to Pyari

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid his final tribute to former Rajya Sabha MP Pyari Mohan Mohapatra after the body reached the Biju Patnaik airport in the afternoon here.

Besides, top political leaders cutting across partyline rushed to the airport to have last darshan of Odisha Jan Morcha chief and former BJD strategist Mohapatra.

BJD leaders including School & Mass Education Minister Debi Mishra, Higher Education Minister Pradip Panigrahi, Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das, Finance Minister Pradip Amat, BJD vice president Surya Narayan Patro, former minister Atanu Sabyasachi had visited the airport to pay tribute to the leader.

The bureaucrat-turned-politician Mohapatra had breathed his last at Mumbai-based Hinduja Hospital last night. He was undergoing treatment for lungs cancer.

His mortal was brought to his residence at Sahid Nagar for allowing public to pay tribute to the leader.

Earlier in the day, Patnaik had condoled the death of his former party leader Mohapatra.

He termed Mohapatra a great politician. “He had proved his mettle in Odisha politics. My sympathies are with the bereaved family members of Mohapatra”, he said.
