Sambalpur MP Nitesh Ganga Deb quits BJP ahead of 2024 polls in Odisha!

Bhubaneswar: Sambalpur MP Nitesh Ganga Deb has reportedly resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on health grounds.

Nitesh, the scion of Bamra royal family, resigned from the primary membership of BJP citing poor health. A social media post in this regard went viral today.

Nitesh reportedly urged his supporters to support his wife Arundhati Kumari Devi, who is now fighting the Assembly polls on a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket from Deogarh seat.

“I am taking a break from active politics due to my poor health condition. So, I am resigning from the primary membership of BJP. I hope that the people of Deogarh will support my wife Arundhati Kumari Devi in the upcoming polls,” read a purported social media post by Nitesh today.

The Sambalpur MP, however, denied his resignation from BJP. He claimed that his social media account has been hacked by someone.

Nitesh had begun his political career in Congress party and got elected to Odisha Assembly. He later shifted his allegiance to BJP.

The Bamra royal scion was elected to the Lok Sabha from Sambalpur constituency on a BJP ticket in 2019. However, the BJP dropped him and nominated Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to fight the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Sambalpur.

Following the denial of BJP ticket to Nitesh, his wife Arundhati Kumari Devi and son Naman Ganga Deb joined the ruling BJD in Odisha.

The Naveen Patnaik-led party has picked Arundhati Devi to fight the 2024 Assembly polls from Deogarh seat.
